Simulation for ATM Networks G. Kesidis, A. Singh, D. Cheung and W.W. Kwok E.& C.E. Dept, University of Waterloo Waterloo, ON, Canada, N2L 3G1 email: fg.kesidis,[email protected] Abstract| We describe an ATM network simulator that uses Markov-modulated uid models for the sources as well as uid leaky buckets and uid bandwidth schedulers. The generalized processor sharing (GPS) and \idling" bandwidth schedulers are described. We argue for the use of the idling scheduler over GPS. Based on this uid model, a simulator for ATM networks has been developed. The simulator employs the well-known discrete event-driven approach. Finally, simulation results are given that, in particular, compare the performance of uid and \cell-level" simulators. The experimental results indicate that while the uid simulator is much faster for ATM networks with certain characteristics, some key issues still need to be addressed to widen the applicability of this approach. Head-Driven Simulation of Water Supply Networks
Up to now most of the existing water supply network analyses have been based on demand-driven simulation models. These models assume that nodal outflows are fixed and are always available. However, this method of simulation neglects the pressure-dependent nature of demand that is characterized by changes in actual nodal outflows particularly during critical events like major mechanical or hydra...
متن کاملRare event simulation
Discrete event simulation as a method for performance evaluation has become an indispensable tool in many fields, e.g., teletraffic engineering. New communication networks and services pose extreme requirements regarding the quality of service, e.g., cell loss probabilities in ATM1 networks in the order of 10 . Straightforward simulation for this type of rare event leads to simulation run times...
متن کاملProportional Time Simulation of ATM Networks
The performance evaluation of ATM networks has received considerable attention from the networking research community. Most of the studies have been done using conventional methods such as discrete event simulation software. This paper presents an application of real-time and embedded system techniques to create distributed proportional rate simulations of ATM networks which execute substantial...
